Ferrandis shines, Herlings completes!
Despite a now legendary blow on Saturday, Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) fought back the pain and still achieved a smooth victory, bringing his lead over Jordi Tixier to 8 points after 110 GPs! 19-year-old Dylan Ferrandis (Bud Racing Kawasaki) was already on the podium in Uddevalla last year but was now close to his first GP victory. His two second places were more than deserved. Hopefully Ferrandis can continue this trend. Christophe Charlier (Monster Energy Yamaha) was also on the podium again in his home GP. Tonkov underlined his progress with a strong fourth place. For the other lowlanders, Ernée became a contest of mixed feelings. Coldenhoff remains at fourth in the World Championship but had to settle for 8th place. Kevin Fors finished 17th in the final standings but did a great first heat.
The Bullit stays on course!
The big loser of the first MX2 round was Dean Ferris. Yesterday on pole and today in the lead... but unfortunately that start was canceled as the gate had not fallen everywhere! This was to the satisfaction of Jeffrey Herlings, who had started poorly. In the revival 'The Bullit' took the holeshot. In front of the many enthusiastic French supporters, Dylan Ferrandis seemed to be on his way to a stunt. The Bud Racing Kawasaki promise came back to Herlings, kept contact and finished a brilliant second!
The #84 led from start to finish, only to get off the bike with a painful grimace. With Coldenhoff there was again a second Dutchman in the top three. Glenn had a start in the sub-top but managed to work his way to the front.
Tixier also managed to recover well after a mediocre start. The KTM factory rider was the first of an orange trio with Butron and Nicholls at 5 and 6. The unfortunate Ferris had to retire with mechanical failure, just like his stablemate Mel Pocock. Better news from Yamaha came from the Kemea riders. Petar Petrov finished 10th, Fors collected a lot of World Cup points with a nice 12th place.
Go Ferrandis!
Another great start from Ferris, who quickly had to hand over command to Tixier. Unfortunately, Jordi also made a mistake very early on and Ferris, who was right behind, also fell victim to it. The second MX2 sprint developed into a very open and fascinating event. Jake Nicholls took the lead, but he in turn had to bow his head to Dylan the-man-on-fire Ferrandis. The group of star coach Jacky Vimond showed himself a little too eager, which in turn caused him to fall back to third place. Halfway through the race, Herlings took the lead and never relinquished the lead, but Ferrandis's recovery to second place spoke volumes. The French talent factory is far from exhausted! The fact that Charlier was allowed on the podium provided an extra French flag behind the podium.
