MX of Nations update with Joël Smets.
The end of the World Cup and AMA season is in sight. Now the time has come for the national coaches to make decisions for the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations! Of course, in Lommel all eyes will be on host country Belgium.
National coach Joël Smets had difficulty putting together a team last year due to the rain of injuries. This season he has a positive selection problem! In addition to MX1 title candidate Clément Desalle sting both Ken De Dycker, Kevin Strijbos as a Jeremy Van Horebeek en Joel Roelants in excellent shape. So it is becoming urgent for the three available places. Traditionally, Smets came together with his men three weeks ago for a team building day.
Joel Smets: “Apart from Clément, Ken, Kevin and Joël were also the young MX2 GP riders Jens Getteman, Kevin Fors, Kenny Vandueren en Julien Lieber present. I think it is important to have them there on such a day. I've always done that. Something like that is motivating and important for the atmosphere. For example, Clément Desalle was also part of the preselection in 2007 and was present at our team building day. The atmosphere was good, the men had a good time. During a busy season it is always fun to do something other than motocross or normal training. We went to the Zilvermeer in Mol where we did the altitude course, among other things.
But it is true that it is not obvious to select a team this year. Preferably this way, of course! As always, I want to get up 15 August Announce Team Belgium during the Radson Trophy at the Keihill in Balen. Barring later injuries, those three men are also the ones who ride in Lommel.”
