AMA Washougal: Alessi and Dungey split the loot!
For the 6de Red Bull-KTM rider Ryan Dungey (2-1) took the overall victory in the 450 class consecutive times. Although it was mainly a symbolic victory. Mike Alessi (in the photo) won the first race and came second after the break. Andrew Short (Honda) finished third (3-4). In the 250 class, GEICO rode Honda's Justin Barcia to his second outdoor win of the 2012 season.
Alessi took the holeshot in the opening moto of the 450 class, trailing Josh Grant and Jake Weimer. After starting 4th, he quickly moved up and closed behind Alessi on the second lap. Dungey also quickly increased the pressure but on lap 12 the championship leader crashed. As a result, Ryan lost 7 seconds, but two laps later he was back in the wheel of Mike Alessi. However, the MotoConcepts rider fought back and repelled Dungey's attacks! Alessi thus ended Dungey's streak of 10 consecutive victories. It was also the first victory ever for the MotoConcepts team!
In race 2, Dungey made short work of the field. After the holeshot he was in the lead from start to finish. Fifteen seconds after him, Alessi crossed the line. Due to the KTM rider's better result in the second moto, he also took the overall victory. Dungey maintains an 80 point lead over Alessi in the rankings.
Barcia twice
In the 250 class, Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin took the holeshot and managed to build a comfortable lead over the rest of the field. Musquin, who had his sights set on a first American moto victory, continued to lead for most of the race. However, on the eleventh lap his empire was over when Barcia passed by. Barcia's teammate Eli Tomac also crossed while Musquin followed in third place.
Barcia took advantage of a strong start in the second race to build a lead over Blake Baggett. The duo was in a duel for almost the entire heat, but Baggett ended the battle with his decisive passage on the 13th lap. Barcia's second place in the final heat was enough to claim the overall victory, ahead of Tomac in second (2-3) and Baggett in third (6-1).
The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is now taking a break, resuming competition on August 11 with round nine at the Moto-X 338 track in Southwick, Massachusetts
