VAMO Racing looks back on Mons
The postponed test for the Belgian Championships in Mons was held last weekend under perfect conditions. The first important race of the year for the Vamo Racing Team. In the first moto both riders showed that the speed was good, but no luck was on their side. The second heat went excellently for Wietse who took 5th place on this very tough circuit.
First heat:
A mediocre start for both Wietse and Michaël put them somewhere in the middle of the pack at the first pass. While Wietse experienced a small hiccup entering the corner and lost a few places, his teammate Michaël made significant progress to a top 10 position. He held on to this until a few laps from the end when a tensioner got stuck in his rear wheel and he was forced to remove it before continuing his journey. Many places were lost with no time to make up for them.
After his crash, Wietse switched to a very good rhythm that he managed to maintain as the race progressed. Lap after lap he made up places and confirmed his good form. An unfortunate fall during an overtaking maneuver in which he got stuck with another rider threw a spanner in the works. The 9th position was the highest possible in this heat in which the speed was optimal but luck was lacking.
Second heat:
A quick start for Wietse, allowing him to start his second heat from 3rd position. A good start that was immediately converted into a strong pace that allowed him to hold this third position until halfway through the race. Grand Prix riders Nikolaj Larsen and Jens Getteman, however, put pressure on this podium. Wietse wisely decided not to make any mistakes and took the wheel from these guys to still take fifth position.
Michaël had a good start in this second round. Just outside the top 10, but with an eye on a group of riders just ahead of him on which he launched an attack. However, he suffered from stomach cramps and was forced to slow down his pace, which ruled out a good result.
Both Wietse and Michaël can conclude that it was a fruitful match with which they can look ahead to the first match for the European Championship in Saint Jean d'Angely next weekend.
