Damon Goyvaerts opts for Kawasaki KX250F
After a difficult first season with the Inters MX1 of the BMB, I opted out Damon Goyvaerts to compete again in the MX2 class this year. The young resident of Putten chose one Kawasaki KX250F of V-mac and will mainly concentrate on the BMB competitions in 2012.
"2011 was a difficult season, in which I rode little” Goyvaerts starts. “I was often injured and got very little time to ride. Actually, my entire BK campaign fell into the water."
Goyvaerts' debut season with the Inters MX1 of the BMB did not go as he had imagined. “I made the switch to MX1 last year in consultation with my father and Steven Lettani from LS Motors for which I competed in the Junior Team. That step to the MX2 ultimately turned out to be quite big. That's why I wanted to return to the more familiar MX2 class this year."
For the first time in his sporting career at the BMB, Goyvaerts is on a motorcycle other than a Honda. “Actually, I always dreamed of being able to ride a Kawasaki. The new KX250F certainly meets my expectations. During the Christmas holidays I was able to train extensively in Spain, and at the end of February I will return to Spain to spend another week on the bike."
Goyvaerts will also take a slightly different tack in 2012 from a sporting perspective. “The BK MX2 obviously comes first for me. In addition, I now also want to ride as many Belgian Nationals as possible. I notice that there is now more interest from good Inters to ride the Challenger Trophy. I will then fill the remaining weekends with VMCF competitions or perhaps a foreign cross here and there."
About his chances in it BK MX2 Goyvaerts is realistic. “The starts are super important in the Radson MX2 Trophy. If I can get a good start, I am sure that I can compete in the front ranks for a long time. But if you miss your start, you will be stuck among the slower Nationals and it will be very difficult to move forward. I don't think I can interfere with the battle for the title or places of honour, but a place in the top 15 of the final standings should be possible."
Goyvaerts is looking forward to it again after two difficult seasons. “Ja, I am fully motivated again. Just write that I have never trained as hard as this winter. Compared to last year, I have now lost 6 kg of weight, but that is also necessary to be able to participate in the MX2. I would also like to thank my parents for still giving me a chance to ride. I would also like to thank Steven Vandeweyer from V-mac for supporting me. I also don't forget Steven Lettani from LS Motors who has helped me over the years."
