The Belgian Youth Report: part 2
We continue with our annual report of Belgian youth talents. In the second part BMB shows youth coach Yves Devlaminck shine his light on Daymond Martens (16), Nathan Renkens (13) and Jordi Van Mieghem (14). The first part of this interesting file you can find here.
Nathan Renkens
Yves Devlaminck: «Several top-five places in the ADAC, 9th in the Junior World Championship and individual winner in the Coupe de l'Avenir... Nathan's sporting balance was very positive in 2011, congratulations ! Nathan even pleasantly surprised me during the Junior World Championships in Cingoli. Not only by giving 110%, but also by setting his fastest lap at the very end of the race. He also impressed with his insight into the course and how he knows how to dose his efforts. He also comes back after a bad start is nice. Both Nathan and the people around him have learned from past mistakes and they take good advice into account. Good.
Just continue as he is doing and continue to professionalize both in terms of the sporting aspects and the material. Nathan also needs to continue to improve his skills when it comes to riding tracks and difficult jumps. The next challenge is the European Championship 125cc. I know how high the bar is there at a technical level. Participating with the top players is still too ambitious for the time being. So roll up your sleeves and get to work! »
Daymond Martens
Yves Devlaminck: “Daymond rode in the 85cc for the first part of the season, until the summer. Then he started riding a 240 four-stroke. He was able to prove himself once again and took top 5 places in the French Cadet Championship. On training I noticed that he has solid technical skills: nice and straight on the footrests and accurate during technical jumps. He is also starting to have an eye for other lines and to jump through deep ruts. Nice ! His desire to fly is also positive. Even in training he manages to set fast lap times and he does not spare himself. The choice of a four-stroke is a completely different matter. Okay, on the one hand, a four-stroke certainly suits his riding style. On the other hand, improving himself in terms of raw speed and his lack of aggression doesn't help. In tough conditions he will also be disadvantaged due to his small size. Daymond must therefore continue to work on his technique, in anticipation of a growth spurt and muscle mass. »
Jordi Van Mieghem
Yves Devlaminck: “I only knew Jordi from the BMB competitions and I have to admit that I may not have had a complete picture of him. During the Supercross stage, Jordi stood out in a positive way! On the one hand, he can fall back on a good basis for jumps, throttle control and drifting. On the other hand, he was also eager to learn and asked very specific questions. Technically, Jordi has no major shortcomings. What could still be improved is his agility during jumps to release the rear brake and his sense of balance in tracks that he needs to improve. This year, sorry in 2011, he already won the most BK races in the 85cc. So it could be that he now has too little competition there. I don't know his calendar yet, but a combination ONK/ADAC/BK would be very interesting from a sporting point of view. »
Next week Yves will continue with the third and final part of the unmissable youth report!
