Ben Townley to Carlton Dry Honda Thor
It has been clear for some time that there would be no European follow-up to Townley's career in 2012. However, despite interest from American teams, the 2 MX2004 World Champion will compete in Australia and New Zealand next season for the factory-supported Carlton Dry-Honda-Thor Racing. The 26-year-old kiwi will have the British Brad Anderson next to him as a teammate.
The Honda CRF450R is not new for BT101 as it previously competed for Red Bull-Honda (2008 and 2009) and Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull/Honda in 2010. Townley: “I would have preferred to go back to America, especially after my strong race during the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas. Only we didn't get the package I wanted. Ultimately, I want to win races again and you need the right equipment for that. Honda in Australia and New Zealand can offer me that opportunity. I want to win again, I've missed that lately. Now I'm ready to win again.”
The ambitious Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing competed this season with Todd Waters and Cheyne Boyd. Since 2008, the team of owner Yarrive Konsky has been competing in MX, SX and Superbike, and in 2010 the team even won the Australian Superbike title. Konsky has also organized the Australian Super-X Championship with his company Full Throttle Sports, he also has an MX magazine 'Stroke' and a motocross school. Funny detail: after years as an ambassador for Red Bull and Monster Energy, Ben remains in the drinks sector because Carlton Dry is an Australian beer brand!
