Czech Republic MX1 GP: podium talk
Clément Desalle booked his fourth GP victory of the season yesterday in Loket. Below you can read what he told the boys who flanked him on stage: Antonio Cairolli en Rui Goncalveshad to say.
GP winner: Clément Desalle, Rockstar Energy Suzuki (2-1)
“My shoulder is getting better and better. However, this circuit was difficult, especially when it came to overtaking. You had to fight very hard here and also be a bit aggressive. That wasn't so cool, but you just had to show that you were there. It was not very fun to drive here, especially because there were more lines than was good. As far as the world championship is concerned, we can only look ahead, as what can still happen. I had to ride injured and that is an aspect of motocross that I don't like. But the team helped me to deal with the whole situation and I learned a lot from that.”
Second: Antonio Cairoli, Red Bull Teka KTM (1-4)
“The first moto was good. I grabbed the holeshot and put in some strong laps. My speed was good and so I was able to clear a gap. I actually had a good start in the second moto as well, but I went into the first corner a little too wide, causing a rider on the inside to hit my wheel. I didn't want to crash and that allowed a number of riders to pass me. I was around 10 at the timee to 11e place. Then on one of the jumping mountains I had to avoid a rider who crashed right in front of me. Then I was around 8e place. It was difficult to overtake but towards the end of the moto I was able to catch up with Max (Nagl) who was nicely 3e hung and passed him by. However, by then the victory had already started flying.”
Third: Rui Goncalves, Honda World Motocross (3-3)
“It took me a long time to get on the podium this year. Last week I already had one foot on the podium, but in the end I fell off. Nevertheless, I continued to focus on achieving a result like this. And I am sure that I should be able to do that in the next GPs with the same approach and hard work. The soil here is special. There is gravel and it is slippery and everyone chooses the same line because that is where it is dry. At the start of the season I had good starts but I didn't feel 100% on the bike after so many years on another brand. The Honda was something completely different, but now I've gotten used to it. The engine just keeps getting better and better. The entire team is now working with the same goal in mind.”
