AMA SX Seattle: Two out of two for Stewart!
It was cold in Seattle last night, but that didn't stop fans from flocking to the Qwest Field stadium. The 15th race of the season went to James Stewart, his second consecutive victory to force his way back into title contention. In the Supercross Lites class it was once again the turn of the West Coast Championship. Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil Honda's Cole Seely took his second win of the season ahead of Tomac and Tickle.
Ivan Tedesco rode to the holeshot once again in the SX final, this time ahead of Chad Reed. Behind them, championship leader Ryan Villopoto shared the proverbial chunks of the first round. Villopoto fell in the first corner and had to come back from far away. Reed quickly overtook Tedesco and appeared to be pulling away, but the heavy rain made the track treacherous. The Australian made a small mistake that allowed Stewart to take the lead. Bubba would stay in the lead for all 20 laps.
“Tonight was great,” said Stewart. “I had a good time all day. I loved the job, it was very difficult. I just tried to stay consistent, because I knew it was going to be fierce behind me. Just look at the circuit and you'll see how rough it is, but my San Manuel-Yamaha worked great. I'm looking forward to Salt Lake City. “
Except for Stewart, all title candidates fell to the ground, as Reed and Ryan Dungey also fell to the ground, just like Villopoto. Kevin Windham was able to take advantage of this to drive to his best finish of the season; second. Reed finished third just ahead of Villopoto. Dungey was fifth
Lites West also remain exciting!
Seeley raced to the holeshot in the 15-lap Supercross Lites final. The Honda rider led from start to finish just as he had done earlier in the season in Los Angeles. Eli Tomac finished second ahead of Broc Tickle securing the final step onto the podium and taking the points lead in the process. After an impressive start to the season, Josh Hansen could not get further than sixth place, he is now two points behind Tickle in the rankings, while Tomac is seven points behind in third place.
