IMBA in Meijel: Verhorevoort wins, Verstrepen 2nd
Home rider Jarno Verhorevoort (Twenty Racing Suspension Suzuki Team) has won the last IMBA race in the open class. Verhorevoort (2-1-2) was the most regular in Meijel, VMCF rider Stijn Verstrepen (1-4-1) was second, one point behind Jarno! Briton Brad O'Leary completed the podium. However, that was not enough for O'Leary to keep German Frank Teitz Jansen from the title. As expected, the MON was well represented with a 5th place for Anton Van de Wetering, a 6th place for Danny Langenberg and a 10th place for Richard Van Baaren.
Verstrepen finished fourth in the IMBA final standings, Verhorevoort sixth. Kawasaki-Benelux rider Langenberg is the second Dutchman in the championship with ninth place.
The holeshot in the first series is for Verhorevoort, who has Jansen-Teitz, O'Leary and Verstrepen behind him. Commotion in the fourth lap after a collision between Jansen – Teitz and O'Leary. This puts Stijn 2nd after Jarno Verhorevoort. Verstrepen immediately makes a successful attack and takes the lead. Just before the start of the last lap, Verhorevoort jumps past Verstrepen into the lead, but 'de Streep' does not give up and immediately hits back and drives beautifully to the series victory. Jarno was stranded in the Belgian's wheel. The rest Belzen things are going a little less well. Bart Hoolants drops out with an ankle injury, Arsene Blyau gives his all and manages to score points in his first IMBA participation, despite the tough course!
Jarno also got off to a good start in the second moto, unlike Verstrepen who was a bit too impatient at the start. Peter Nijs' group immediately wanted to go to the front and fell. While the Twenty Racing Suzuki rider from Helmond took control of the race, Verstrepen pulled off an impressive recovery. Van De Wetering and Langenberg are also in good shape. From thirtieth place, Verstrepen moves up to eighth, in barely one lap! Some shifts at the front: Verhorevoort remains at 1, Frank Jansen – Teitz at 2, Brad O'Leary at 3, Van De Wetering at 4 and Langenberg at 5. In no time Verstrepen moves up to position, but the distance to the three leaders is too far. Jarno wins ahead of Frank and Brad and Stijn has to settle for 4th place. Blyau again rides well in the points but forfeits for the third series.
Jarno must have thought three times the charm because he once again took the holeshot ahead of Stijn and Frank. In the third lap, Verstrepen puts the finishing touches and takes the lead. Just at the start of round 5, Jansen-Teitz joins Stijn and Jarno. This is the signal for Verstrepen to step up his game and steadily walks away from Jarno and Frank. A nice second victory of the day for Vestrepen. Verhorevoort only needed a second place for the day's victory. Click here to view Meijel's results.
