VIDEO: BK sidecar in Hasselt
The fourth round of the Belgian Sidecarcross Championships in Hasselt once again provided the backdrop for the best of the Belgian sidecar world. This applied to both the teams present and the excellent circulation.
In the BC standings, Hendrickx-Liepins retain their leading position, but 'Der Jan' and the 'Smeu' (Hendrickx-Smeuninx) made up two points, so that the gap is now 27 points. Things are getting more exciting at the moment for third place in the BC standings. It is currently owned by the Visscher brothers, but Ben Adriaenssen-Kenny Van Gaalen nibbled at their deficit and are now fourth, just 12 points behind Jan and Jeroen Visscher. With two games to go (August 22, Eernegem, and October 10, Angreau), anything is still possible!
First series for Jan Hendrickx
The young, ambitious duo Adriaensen-Van Gaalen took the holeshot in series 1 and then led for two laps. Until world champions Hendrickx-Liepins had enough and resolutely took over the lead. There was a fierce fight for second place, which ended up in favor of Jan Hendrikx-Tim Smeuninx (coming from a ninth starting position). Behind this, the battle for third place became particularly exciting in the final round: When Adriaenssen-Van Gaalen – briefly hindered by a doubled rider – came to a standstill in the final lap, they saw the never-yielding Dutch Visscher brothers coming alongside, after which Adriaenssen had to retire. to place fourth. The British-Belgian combination J. Watson – D. Sabbe, fifth in the standings for Hasselt, was unlucky. Shortly after the start, Watson-Sabbe's machine fell completely backwards after a spectacular wheelie.
Series two for Joris Hendrickx
After the break, Hendrickx-Smeuninx immediately took the lead after the start, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the race. Adriaenssen-Van Gaalen, who now started second, was also no longer fooled, although this was not at all obvious in the final phase.
In the first corner after the start, Van der Schraelen-Herygers, Grondman-Sellis and . . . world champions Hendrickx-Liepins were left orphaned after a spectacular crash. One lap later, world champion Joris Hendrickx had managed to connect with the peloton, and from then on a catch-up race ensued that had the public standing on their toes for a while. Overtaking is apparently quite easy with a sidecar, as long as you choose the appropriate speed and the right driving lines, as Joris Hendrickx proved once again here. The world champion still ended up in a well-deserved third place (after a long duel with Jan and Jeroen Visscher), at the rear wheel of Adriaenssen Van Gaalen, who, together with the two Hendrickx boys, secured their place on the day's podium. stated.
After the race, day winners Jan Hendrickx-Tim Smeuninx immediately donated their victory flowers to the relatives of Jefke Gevers - who died last Wednesday at the Everts & Friends Charity Race - a heartfelt gesture from two motocross world top riders - with their hearts in the right place.
