Heat no problem for Tony Cairoli!
A merciless sun and a humid, oppressive heat greeted the riders during qualifying today. The heat inspired Josh Coppins and his Aprilia to great deeds as the New Zealander actually took the holeshot. However, Cairoli quickly put things in order and home rider Xavier Boog moved to the front. Boog also finished second after Cairoli. Kevin Strijbos also started strongly in third. Until the first five laps the positions remained unchanged with Cairoli ahead of Boog, Strijbos and Guarneri. Strijbos gradually lost ground in the second half of the race and would eventually finish eighth. TM factory driver Anthony Boissière achieved his strongest qualifying of the season with sixth place. The Suzuki duo Desalle and Ramon rode to the front again after a poor start. They came third and fourth respectively. Ken De Dycker had a hard time finding the right rhythm and finished fourteenth. After a super start, Coppins in turn came in thirteenth. In the final lap, Max Nagl had a heavy fall. The German was taken away and reportedly injured his shoulder.
