Brent Vandoninck is improving!
The 17-year-old Scott KTM talent was urgently admitted to the hospital in Herentals earlier this week. After examination, it turned out that Brent had suffered a stroke, more specifically a cerebral infarction.
After numerous investigations, the correct cause of this stroke has now been found. A big relief for Brent and the entire family is that there are no permanent injuries. After thorough examinations, it appears that Brent has VSD ('ventricular septal defect'), or literally means a hole (defect) in the septum of the heart chambers (ventricles). It could also be ASD syndrome, and then we are talking about a hole in the septum of the atria. Or when the connection between the aorta and the pulmonary artery is not closed after birth. This all seems bad at first glance, but in fact it can be remedied with a fairly minor intervention. Brent will undergo this procedure in the near future, and he will then be able to build up to a further MX career without heart problems.
Brent would like to take this opportunity to thank all sponsors, supporters, family and friends for the many expressions of support he receives. We wish Brent success with the procedure and the upcoming rehabilitation, and we hope to see him back on the tracks soon!
