Seppe Bekaert is looking forward to MX2 GP debut
The registration list for the third Lommel MX2 round includes two Belgian wildcard riders: Jordi Van Mieghem and MCLB rider Seppe Bekaert. Van Mieghem already took his chance in the EMX250 in which he qualified both last Saturday and on Tuesday. It will be a remarkable debut for 20-year-old Bekaert from Oosteeklo.
Seppe used to work as a cyclocross rider, then switched to mountain biking and completed his first season as a motocross rider last year. Not without success, by the way, because he became 125cc license club champion at RES Axel. In the MCLB Novices 250-500cc he finished 2019th in 34.
Even in the low-competition 2020 season, it remains a huge feat to already participate in a Grand Prix. Or not, Seppe? “I have indeed only been driving for two years. This weekend it is actually also a bit for fun. But above all to learn a lot.” The name Bekaert may ring a bell. Because Seppe's father Patrick also rode motocross for 25 years. Seppe: “My dad also rode about four GPs. Without him I would never have gotten this far. He teaches me a lot, just like my ex-father-in-law Olivier Denooze. He gives me a lot of support and he also teaches me things.”
We wish Seppe good luck tomorrow.
