Lata wins, Valk and Van Erp fight hard
Valerio Lata has started the European 250cc Championship well under sunny conditions. The GasGas rider managed to win the first round on the Arroyomolinos circuit ahead of Karlis Alberts Reisulis and Mathis Valin. Cas Valk is the best Dutchman, the winner of this competition, last year came fourth ahead of compatriot Ivano van Erp. Bradley Mesters crosses the finish line in tenth place, while Dave Kooiker made his return after a complete year of absence with a 29th place. Unfortunately, the Belgians present did not qualify for the competitions.
In the time training, Lata was just faster than Valk, with the Italian taking pole position. However, the sprint to the first corner is not that good for either, Karlis Reisulis takes the best start, followed by teammate Van Erp and Luca Ruffini. Lata comes out of the first corner in fifth place, but quickly manages to displace compatriot Ruffini from third place. However, Janis Reisulis has other plans and he manages to pass the GasGas rider a little later. This puts the Yamaha riders in the lead! Valk started the race in eighth position and the SS24 rider is quickly moving towards the top three after passing Janis Reisulis. Behind the back of Karlis Reisulis, a duel for second place arises between the Dutch. It will take a while before the “Pocket Rocket” has to make way for Valk. He then quickly manages to connect with leader Karlis Reisulis. However, Lata has now found a connection with Valk and halfway through the race the rider from Nijverdal makes a mistake. Due to this crash, Valk loses many places. Lata is able to take over the lead from Karlis Reisulis a little later and the 18-year-old rider from Rome wins the first heat ahead of Karlis Reisulis and debutant Valin! Valk returns to fourth place after he manages to pass Van Erp in the final phase. Mesters did not have the best start, but the Brabander came back strongly to cross the finish line in tenth. Unfortunately, the Belgians present did not qualify for the competitions.
