Guillen wins the first heat ahead of Van Drunen
Just south-west of Madrid, Daniela Guillen has started the FIM WMX World Championship very well. The Spaniard won the first round to the delight of the fans present. The GasGas rider won ahead of Lotte Van Drunen and reigning world champion Courtney Duncan. Lynn Valk crossed the finish line in fourth place while Shana van der Vlist managed to move from last to tenth place.
Van Drunen is by far the fastest in the training and the South Holland rider also wins the sprint to the first corner. However, she goes too wide there, allowing Duncan and Valk to pass on the inside. Kiara Fontanesi comes out of the first corner in fourth ahead of Guillen, but he is clearly in a hurry. They quickly pass Fontanesi and not much later she also passes Van Drunen. Valk manages to hold on to second place for the first full lap, but a little later Guillen comes next and takes over second place.
Duncan already has a lead of about five seconds, but that turns out not to be enough. The New Zealander saw her lead decrease and Guillen found the connection a little later. The first attack is repulsed, but moments later Guillen takes over the lead. Duncan gets into trouble and crashes, causing Van Drunen to take over second place. It took Van Drunen almost ten minutes to pass Valk, but then she quickly distanced herself. Guillen wins the first round of the season ahead of Van Drunen and Duncan.
Valk and Fontanesi complete the top five, Martine Hughes comes sixth by passing Sara Andersen on the last lap. Papenmeier, Malou Jakobsen and Van der Vlist complete the top ten. Danee Gelissen crosses the finish line in 16th place and Britt Jans-Beken does not finish after trying to pull the starting gate out of the ground.
