The VMCF launches electric motocross: This is what you need to know!
It had been coming for a long time. Electric racing will become a reality this year. The arrival of the Stark Varg, the performance of Honda's electric prototype and the very popular Surron's and Talaria's of this world have woken up many people from the motocross world.
Jack Brunell recently won the popular Arenacross in the UK on a Stark Varg and last weekend Infront Moto Racing announced that there will be a world championship for electric motorcycles. This year, the Flemish Motocross Federation (VMCF) has decided to allow electric machines, which requires some explanation.
The VMCF has taken a smart look at this new technology and divided it into two groups. On the one hand there are the equivalents of the Surron's and Talaria. They will have their own series in a real Belgian Championship that will be held on the Saturdays that the old-timers compete in their competition (VMCF competitions). The competition runs over no fewer than 10 matches. On the other hand, there are the heavier and more competitive machines such as the Stark Varg. They compete on Sunday and are classified as an MX1 machine.
Pilots who want to participate with a Stark engine or equivalent will have to observe some additional safety regulations. Every pilot must have a fire extinguisher type F500 in his vehicle and must also take it with him during the technical inspection so that this can be checked. This type of extinguisher is suitable for extinguishing lithium-ion batteries. The extinguisher may remain in the vehicle for the rest of the day. The federation itself ensures that there are some fire extinguishers F500 be present at the circuit.
