MXGP: Jorge Prado gives driving lessons in his own country
With force majeure, Jorge Prado managed to win the second GP of the season. It was driven this afternoon in our own country near Madrid. Prado won the qualifying heat yesterday and dominated both heats today at the Arroyomolinos circuit.
First series
Jorge Prado took the holeshot with Maxime Renaux behind him who was able to keep up with the Spaniard's pace in the first few laps. Prado then rode away and dominated the entire series in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. When Renaux dropped away from the front, the battle for second place continued with Jeffrey Herlings closing in on Slovenian Tim Gajser.
The latter held on and finished in second place. Febvre also passed Maxime Renaux and finished fourth. Glenn Coldenhoff had a solid ride to finish sixth, ahead of Jeremy Seewer and Pauls Jonass.
Second series
In the second round, Prado once again took the holeshot, but the heavyweights were now all in the top five. Gajser was second and Febvre third with Herlings quickly passing Flanders for fourth place.
The first part of the race was relatively even, Jorge Prado took a comfortable lead by completing his laps very smoothly and staying clear. Romain Febvre put Gajser under pressure for most of the race but the Slovenian did not back down. After Argentina, a sublime Jorge Prado now also wins his home match and beats Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre in the final score.
Prado now has a 10 point lead in the standings over first pursuer Tim Gajser. The next race for the Motocross World Championship is in 14 days on the island of Sardinia in Riola Sardo.
