Lotte van Drunen takes podium place in Spain
Lotte van Drunen of the De Baets Yamaha Racing MX team finished second in the first round of the 2024 FIM Women's Motocross World Championship in Spain. Finishing second in both races, the young Dutch sensation showed tremendous skill, speed and endurance all weekend in her WMX debut.
After setting the fastest time in qualifying by more than a second, van Drunen took that speed into the first race. Starting from fifth place, Van Drunen moved to the front and took second on the seventh of the eleven laps, where she remained for the rest of the race.
The 16-year-old started race two knowing that if she won the race she would take the overall victory. By digging deep on the final lap, van Drunen crossed the line in second, less than half a second from victory and was rewarded with second place overall. A strong and encouraging start to the season for 401 in her first race on her GYTR-equipped YZ250F.
The WMX season continues on April 7 with the MXGP of Sardinia in Riola-Sardo.
