Preview: 2024 250SX EastCoast Championship
The departure of Hunter Lawrence leaves the title battle for next season's Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 250SX East Coast wide open. Can Chance Haymas keep the title with Honda for the third year in a row? Star Racing-Yamaha-Monster Energy only managed to win this title once, which was in 2021 with Colt Nichols. The Team Pro Circuit-Kawasaki-Monster Energy is waiting even longer for this title, Christophe Pourcel won it in 2009 and 2010! We are of course looking at Triumph's debut with Jalek Swoll and Evan Ferry. We look ahead to the championship that starts this weekend in Detroit.
Yamaha:
During the preparations, Haiden Deegan suffered an arm injury that prevented him from participating in the West Coast. The SMX champion says he is ready for the fight and he is the main contender for the title. Initially, Star Racing was going to compete with five drivers, but Enzo Lopes was injured and will miss the first race. Jeremy Martin, Daxton Bennick and Nick Romano will be in action. Coty Schok and Jett Reynolds will compete in the colors of Team Club MX-Muc Off-Yamaha.
Sling:
After competing in various competitions at the highest level last year, Haymas is now the standard bearer at Honda. The 18-year-old rider has big shoes to fill because the Lawrence brothers won this championship in 2022 and 2023! With the world title in his pocket, Max Anstie has big plans for this championship, the Brit can certainly score high. The remaining Honda riders in the East Coast are used by Phoenix Racing. Cullin Park will start in Detroit but Kyle Peters will complete the Arenacross Series first.
Kawasaki:
Due to new rules, Austin Forkner will be active in the 250cc class for another year. It will be his eighth season on the KX250F and he is seen as Deegan's biggest rival. The 25-year-old rider competed against Jett Lawrence in 2022 but was injured. Last season he fell after 25 meters during the first match and suffered another long-term injury. Cameron McAdoo and Seth Hammaker will also play for Mitch Payton's team this year. McAdoo has previously indicated that he will only be satisfied with the title and then move to the toughest class in 2024.
GasGas-Husqvarna-KTM:
Tom Vialle's first year went well, but now it is time to switch up, according to the Frenchman. He is the leader from 'Austria', but something is also expected from Pierce Brown in the coming season. Vialle and Brown should certainly be able to compete for victories. That is not yet expected from Guillem Farres, the Spaniard has switched to Husqvarna. The rider from Barcelona will make his supercross debut after only being active in 250MX for Star Racing last year.
Suzuki:
In his youth career, Preston Boespflug played for KTM, but he started his professional career with Suzuki. The 18-year-old rider has switched to Toyota Redlands Bar X Suzuki. His teammate is also a rookie, Leo Tucker is a new name in Supercross.
Triumphs:
The arrival of Triumph was announced during the 2022 Motocross of Nations in Buchanan. This weekend the British brand will debut in the USA with Swoll and Ferry, indeed the son of Tim Ferry! It remains to be seen where both stand, Swoll has already won during the 'Outdoors', but during the Supercross competitions he is still inconsistent, partly due to a lot of injuries.
The total calendar will consist of seventeen matches, the East Coast will play nine times, including two East-West Shoot Outs.
