Riola Sardo: Tim Gajser wins both heats
The opener of the international motocross season was perfect for HRC Honda rider Tim Gajser. He won both series on the brand new CRF450RW. Ferruccio Zanchi, the brand new factory rider for HRC Honda, won ahead of Simon Laengenfelder in MX2.
MX1
In race one it was Romain Febvre who took the holeshot from Glenn Coldenhoff and Tim Gajser. However, the Slovenian did not sit still and passed Coldenhoff and Febvre to take the lead. It looked like the Honda rider would pull away, but Febvre was right on his heels and kept it close.
With two laps to go, a few stragglers seemed to get in his way, after which Febvre seemed to settle for second place. Yamaha riders Maxime Renaux and Jago Geerts both started outside the top five, but they passed Coldenhoff and Fernandez for third and fourth places respectively.
Glenn Coldenhoff took the holeshot on his Fantic in the second moto, but he had Tim Gajser hot on his heels with Jago Geerts in third. Gajser was able to attack and pull away from the front, while Geerts lost the front and crashed when he tried to attack second place in third. Maxime Renaux was able to pass Coldenhoff to finish second with Febvre fourth.
MX2
Andrea Adamo took the holeshot in the opening race, but had Oriol Oliver and Simon Langenfelder for company. Both were able to intervene and Oliver looked good up front before Laengenfelder passed him and dominated up front. Adamo finished second and then dropped back to third, but Oliver made a mistake on the final lap that allowed Adamo to move back up to second.
Ferruccio Zanchi and Hakon Fredriksen both had a bad start, but built up a good pace to finish fourth and sixth respectively.
Chaos ensued in the first corner of the second moto when Langenfelder and Adamo both fell in a crash. Prugnieres took the lead with Oliver and Zanchi for company. Oliver was able to take the lead, but Zanchi found himself in second place and then went all out – moving into the lead and winning on his HRC Honda debut!
125cc.
Gyan Doensen finished second in the 125cc rankings after winning the first series and finishing third in the reprise. The Hungarian Noel Zanocz won the competition. Dani Heitink finished 8th while Douwe Vanmechgelen finished tenth in the final standings.
