Aranda and Desprey celebrate their titles in Dortmund
The titles were awarded during the second evening of the ADAC SX Cup in Dortmund. The third day in the Westfalenhallen never counts towards the championship. Reigning champion Greg Aranda started the day four points ahead of Cedric Soubeyras. It was a special final with Aranda as the winner and he is therefore the champion again. Compatriot Maxime Desprey had a perfect season, he won all races and is the deserved champion in the SX2.
SX1:
Earlier in the evening, Aranda and Soubeyras had won their heat, meaning the final would decide the title battle. Charles Lefrancois takes the best start while Aranda does not seem to start well in the final. However, he turns the first corner very short and joins the fast starter and is followed by compatriot Adrien Escoffier. Jordi Tixier and Soubeyras cross the washboard shoulder to shoulder with the aim of fourth place. The KMP Honda rider comes out on top, but the final lasts 20 laps. On the first full lap, Aranda takes the lead and is immediately able to build a safe lead. Lefrancois is quickly losing places and falling outside the top five. After seven laps, Tixier and Soubeyras come together again in their hunt for Escoffier. The Husqvarna rider can almost keep second place for the first half, but then 'Soubs' gets up to speed. When he climbs to second place, the crowd holds its breath. Little by little the Pfeil Kawasaki rider comes closer, but Aranda has everything under control with four laps to go until he makes a mistake. After the washboard the leader falls and sees Soubeyras and Tixier pass. The former MX2 world champion then attacks the leader and they collide. Tixier falls while Soubeyras barely stays on his feet, but feels Aranda's hot breath on his neck. The pursuer immediately attacks and takes the lead again just before the start of the last lap. Aranda wins and is therefore again assured of the title, Soubeyras comes second ahead of Tixier, Escoffier and the born Finn Harri Kullas.
SX2:
In the 15-lap final, Koch brings the crowd to their feet when he gets the best start. Paul Bloy seems to complete the success for the Germans, but he sees Desprey passing. On the first full lap, Desprey takes the lead and the French Yamaha rider never relinquishes it. Fonvielle also quickly passes Bloy, but Koch manages to resist for a while. However, the Sarholz rider is stronger and still takes second place. Koch finished third and got the audience on the benches in the Westfalenhallen. Not a perfect day for Yannis Irsuti, but he is very fast in the final. The Kawasaki rider crosses the finish line in fourth place after a nice duel with Mickael Lamarque. Lamarque completes the top five, Boris Blanken entered the evening program but was eliminated in the last chance.
