Also in 2024 a busy vintage motocross calendar
The popular branch of motocross is gaining more and more international appeal. Motocross with old motorcycles is hot and that is why there are many fun international events on the calendar. High time for an overview.
Years ago there were only a few events that showed an international character, including the Flutlicht Motocross in Kleinhau, Germany. Then came the Farleigh Castle Vets MX who created an event for national teams for the vintage motocross riders. The Belgians have already been successful a number of times and were able to win the race. In the meantime, Foxhill has been the location for a similar organization (VMXdN) for several years, but inspired by EVO machines.
There is also a lot of motocross in our own country with older machines. In addition to the Belgian Classic Car Cross Championship (BOTC), there is the very successful Trophée 875 des Nations on the fantastic circuit of La Petite Gette in Orp-Le-Grand. Since last year, AMC has given Eau Noire an extra boost and Nismes is the battleground for a competition for the BK classic car cross.
This race is also open to foreign riders who would like to ride on the GP circuit. Nismes has hosted a Grand Prix motocross and even an MXoN several times. Remember the great “Naties” of 1997 where team manager Joël Robert had the circuit sprayed with the necessary moisture and thus helped Stefan Everts, Marnicq Bervoets and Joël Smets to victory.
The biennial event “Namur Legend” by Thierry Materne is also a highlight and will be held on July 27 and 28 with the confirmation of big names such as Jean-Jacques Bruno, Jean-Claude Laquaye, Pascal Leuret, Marc Velkeneers, Kurt Ljungqvist, Clément Desalle and Dave Thorpe. They will ride a Race of Champions as former participants of the GP at the Citadel of Namur.
The vintage motocross season starts every year in Le Touquet. On Friday, the Enduropale du Touquet welcomes 600 vintage crossers who go full throttle for an hour on the “Paris Plage” beach of the French seaside city. The Enduropale will be held next year on February 3, 4 and 5. Below is the provisional international calendar of all major Vintage Motocross events. You can find all news about these races from our colleagues at MXVintage.be.
