Van der Mierden wins his fifth of the season
In a sunny and warm Meijel, Sven van der Mierden won the thirteenth race of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 500cc. The GasGas driver won the daily rankings for the fifth time this year with second and first place. Micha Boy de Waal (3-1) and Marcel Conijn (2-3) stood next to the reigning champion on the podium at MCC Meijel. Conijn is doing well in the standings and is increasing his lead.
1e some
De Waal was the fastest in the training, but the sprint to the first corner was won by Van der Mierden. Conijn follows, just like De Waal, who then quickly works his way to the lead. However, things go wrong for the GasGas driver in the first full lap. The 28-year-old rider crashes and has to give chase. Van der Mierden takes over the lead ahead of Conijn and Van Mechelen briefly manages to take third place. However, he is passed by Nick Leerkes who even becomes dangerous for Conijn later in the match. However, the Gebben Yamaha rider manages to accelerate and holds on to second place behind Van der Mierden. De Waal comes back very strongly to third place, keeping his chances of winning the day alive. Leerkes crosses the finish line in fourth place ahead of Van Mechelen with the Brouwer Motors-Husqvarna.
2e some
When the starting gate drops for the last time this year, De Waal takes the lead ahead of Conijn and Van de Mierden. In the first round, Leerkes briefly comes to third place and Van Mechelen also passes the winner of the first round. It then recovers. Van der Mierden quickly returns to third place, but Conijn cannot easily be outdone. With five minutes to go, Van der Mierden manages to connect and takes over second place. An important second place because he wins the daily ranking. De Waal wins with a big lead ahead of Van der Mierden and Conijn. Just like in the first round, Leerkes and Van Mechelen duel for fourth place, but now fourth place goes to Leerkes.
The next race of this championship will be held in Lelystad next week. Two weeks later (September 30 - October 1) the final is at the Lichtenvoorde circuit.
