MON: Sem Taspinar supreme in Meijel
Last Saturday a race was scheduled in Meijel in the battle for the title in the MX 2 youth class of the Motorsport Organization Netherlands. Even during the shortened qualifying training, it was guest driver Sem Taspinar who managed to set by far the fastest time. The Buitenhuis-Racing rider also lived up to expectations in the race and won both heats with force majeure. Behind it, it was Alex van Weerdenburg who strengthened his leading position in the championship. With two second place finishes in the heats, he finished second in the overall standings. This made him twice too strong for Dani Koot, who twice finished third and was therefore allowed to take a seat on the lowest step of the podium.
Belgian Troy Dendooven consolidated his third place in the championship. With a fourth and fifth place he finished fourth in the daily rankings. The top five was completed by Dani Puts based on the second heat. With a seventh and fourth place in the heats he stayed ahead of Stein Kanters.
First heat
Taspinar was the fastest ahead of van Weerdenburg, Koot, Dendooven and Kanters. After three laps it seemed that the differences had already been made. Taspinar was seven seconds ahead of van Weerdenburg and Koot. Well behind that came Dendooven. Kanters followed within a few seconds and Walter van Gorkum was behind him at four seconds. Once they arrived among the stragglers, it seemed for a while that van Weerdenburg and Koot had another chance to close the gap with Taspinar. However, once past the first stragglers, Taspinar kept all control and won the heat. Behind them, Koot stayed at the rear wheel with Van Weerdenburg for the entire moto and the ultimate attack had to come in the last lap. However, Koot stranded 0.1 second behind Weerdenburg. Dendooven had to leave a big gap behind this, but also had a large margin over Kanters. Behind it, van Gorkum saw his chance for fifth place go up in smoke in the final phase of the heat. He was passed by Vigo Dral, Dani Puts and Tyson Loots.
Second heat
It was again Taspinar who was the fastest away ahead of van Weerdenburg. Puts, Koot and Dendooven followed behind. In the first lap Koot passed Puts and he followed van Weerdenburg on his rear wheel. Dendooven had also passed Puts and followed within ten seconds. Taspinar quickly took a lead and would also end the heat with a large lead. Van Weerdenburg and Koot again battled each other for the entire heat. Koot seemed to be preparing for the ultimate attack again in the final round. However, at the penultimate passage, van Weerdenburg had just the gap he needed and he managed to finish second again ahead of Koot. Behind them, Dendooven, Puts and Kanters battled for the remaining places in the top five. In the last lap it was Puts who passed Dendooven to finish fourth. Kanters followed close behind in fifth.
