Kevin Horgmo ends the World Championship in seventh
F&H Kawasaki Racing Team's Kevin Horgmo ended his MX2 career in eighth place at the final Grand Prix of the season in Britain's Matterley Basin and finished seventh in the championship standings. The first heat started with a setback for Horgmo because during the second lap he crashed in sixth place and was dropped back to eleventh place. On the seventh lap he re-entered the top ten and started to close the gap to the group of riders in front of him. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to pass any more riders and they therefore finished in tenth place.
He started the second heat extremely motivated. He managed to get a good start and was able to start the race in sixth place. In the hustle and bustle of the first lap he chose the wrong line and was knocked back to tenth place. During the race he fought back to eighth place and attacked the seventh man. He was unable to regain this position and finished eighth. With these results he finished eighth in the overall standings and finished seventh in the final standings of the world championship.
Kevin Horgmo:
“In the first moto I got a good start and went around the outside in the first corner, allowing me to start the race in sixth position. However, in the second lap I crashed briefly when my front wheel slipped. I then needed a few laps to get back into my rhythm. In the final phase I was strong and came close behind the eighth and ninth men. It was difficult to overtake so I couldn't pass them and finished tenth. I also managed to get a good start from the outside in the second moto, but unfortunately I made too many mistakes on the first lap because it was slippery on the wet track. This made me lose my confidence and it bothered me for a few laps. I found my rhythm again and finished eighth, but I thought I should have finished higher with my speed. This was the last race of my MX2 career. This year we had some ups and downs but we did not give up and I would like to thank the team very much. The highlight was the heat victory in Turkey. It was also my last Grand Prix for F&H and I would like to thank them very much for the last two seasons. We have had good times and I hope to end this period strong during the MX of Nations."
David Braceras did not start the heats on Sunday. The Spaniard crashed in the first round of the qualifying heat on Saturday and injured his elbow. In view of his participation in the MX of Nations, it was wise to rest his elbow and not take action. Braceras finished seventeenth in the final standings of the world championship.
