Full spoils for Van Weerdenburg in Overloon
Last Saturday, Alex van Weerdenburg won the race in the MX2 youth class in Overloon. The DJR rider managed to win both heats at the Duivenbos circuit, taking the full spoils with 120 points and strengthening his leading position in the championship. Second place went to Dani Koot. Despite a fall at the start of the first heat, he still managed to finish second twice in the heat. With a third and fourth place in the heats, it was Vigo Dral who took his place on the lowest step of the podium. This was the first time this season for Dral that he managed to achieve a podium finish.
Belgian Troy Dendooven finished in fourth place by finishing fifth and third in the heats. Dani Puts completed the top five for the day with a fourth and fifth place in the heats. The next race is scheduled for the MX2 youth in Geldermalsen this Sunday.
First heat:
It was Van Weerdenburg with the best start for Put, Koot, Walter van Gorkum and Dendooven. However, things went wrong in the second corner. Koot, van Gorkum and Dendooven crashed. Van Gorkum left the race and Koot and Dendooven had to start a catch-up race from behind. Van Weerdenburg took advantage eagerly and at the first passage already had an eleven-second lead over Puts, Dral and Kanters. Roan van Vegchel followed well behind. Two laps later, Dendooven and Koot finished fifth and sixth. Halfway through the heat, Dral passed Puts and came in second. Dendooven and Koot had found the connection behind it. However, Dendooven lost this due to a fall, causing Koot to move up to fifth place. Koot quickly continued his progress and three laps later he took second place. However, Van Weerdenburg was already 43 seconds ahead and was able to take the day's victory unthreatened. Koot quickly drove away from Dral and saw the checkered flag in second place. Behind him, Dral followed within a few seconds, followed by Puts. Dendooven fought back again and passed Kanters.
Second heat:
It was Van Weerdenburg again with the best start. Van Vegchel also took off well behind, but soon saw Koot, Dendooven, Puts and Dral pass him by. The positions for this heat were already taken in the second round. Van Weerdenberg was in the lead and always had a few seconds lead over Koot. Dendooven could not follow the front two. However, he did hold off Dral and saw the checkered flag in third place. Puts and Kanters followed well behind.
