Tim Gajser wins first series in Matterley Basin
Slovenian Tim Gajser has won the first MXGP series in Matterley Basin. Jeremy Seewer finished second ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff and Jorge Prado.
No Maxime Renaux to be seen today. He suffered a minor injury yesterday during the qualifying heat. The holeshot was for Jorge Prado, but Glenn Coldenhoff immediately came over. Tim Gajser, Jeremy Seewer and Ruben Fernandez were the closest pursuers.
Romain Febvre, because of the 50th anniversary of the KX, which was decorated in the colors of the early 90s, got off to a mediocre start at an 8th place. Prado had closed the gap on leader Coldenhoff after five laps, so a duel was coming. But Gajser also got involved in the debates at the front.
But on lap seven Prado crashed and had to drop two places. Now it was Gajser who had to put the heat on leader Coldenhoff. Seewer was now third ahead of Prado and fifth man Febvre. With three minutes of the race left, the tension was palpable as the top four were within three seconds of the leader. Gajser eventually saw a rare opportunity to pass the Dutchman and took the lead from Coldenhoff. The latter also had to let Seewer past and also had to deal with pressure from Jorge Prado.
Tim Gajser won this first series ahead of Jeremy Seewer and Glenn Coldenhoff. The second series will follow later at 18:10 PM.
