Reisulis takes dramatic EMX125 double
In contrast to the excellent conditions yesterday, the track was muddy this morning in Uddevalla. Max Werner (Fantic) led from the start until the final lap but championship leader Janis Martins Reisulis took advantage when Werner made a mistake. Reisulis' title rival Mathis Valin finished 2nd ahead of Francisco Garcia.
Both Werner and teammate Elias Escandell got off to an excellent start. Things looked good for the young German (photo below) for a long time as he built up a nice lead.
Escandell chased his teammate in extremis before falling on the final lap. It made little difference to the final score as the Spanish 125cc champion was charged a 10-place penalty for jumping under a yellow flag. Werner also had to empty the chalice to the bottom. After all, he suffered mechanical failure, could no longer start and was ultimately classified 10th. Just like in Lommel, Kasimir Hindersson finished third on the podium.
Reisulis gratefully moved from P3 to P1 on the last lap. In the standings, the MJC Yamaha rider is now 37 points ahead of Junior World Champion Mathis Valin. With one round to go, Janis Martins Reisulis seems almost certain of the title. After Gyan Doensen's impressive 4th place yesterday, Maxime Lucas now surprised as the strongest lowlander. The KTM Tech32 Racing rider kept a cool head and finished 9th. Doensen now finished 13th while Douwe Van Mechgelen, 18th on Saturday, now had to settle for 27th.
