Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings win in Balen
It was like old times walking over the heads on the sun-drenched Keiheuvel in Balen. A mini-GP on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the organizing club KMC Mol was once again a big party in which many prominent figures from the past were honored. Antonio Cairoli showed that he can still master the youngsters perfectly and won the Inters 250 class. Jeffrey Herlings was the best sand hare at the Inters 500.
Interest 250
Rick Elzinga raced away from the start of the first series with Antonio Cairoli and Liam Everts in his wake. The latter seemed to threaten the position of his team manager for a moment, but wisely decided to take his chances. The Dutch sand specialist felt great, never looked back and won the series ahead of Cairoli and Everts without any opposition. Camden McLellan finished P4 ahead of Scott Smulders and Raf Meuwissen.
The Sicilian Cairoli took a different approach in the second series and resolutely took the lead ahead of Sacha Coenen and Liam Everts. Elzinga had started fourth and then quickly advanced, eventually ending up in P2. Cairoli wins this round ahead of Elzinga and Everts. The overall victory obviously goes to Antonio Cairoli.
Total Inters 250
- Antonio Cairoli 47p.
- Rick Elzinga 47p.
- Liam Evert 40p.
- Camden McLellan 36p.
- Scott Smulder 31p.
Interest 500
Benoit Paturel led the field at the start of the first round of the Inters 500. Romain Febvre and Jeffrey Herlings followed in his wake. After a few laps, Paturel could no longer counter Febvre's pounding and had to watch as the Frenchman took over the lead. Febvre won this series ahead of Herlings, Paturel and Yentel Martens.
The holeshot in the second series went to Jeffrey Herlings. Febvre, Adam Sterry and Micha Boy Dewael were his pursuers. Paturel was now sixth from the starting gate. Yentel Martens had a poor start and had to put in a lot of work in the middle of the pack to make up places. Febvre came close to Herlings, but he didn't get to the wheel anymore because The Bullet then stepped up and won the second round ahead of Febvre and a strong riding Max Nagl. Herlings wins the match ahead of Febvre and Nagl. Lars van Berkel crashed in this series and had to retire.
