Van Weerdenburg takes advance on title
Last Saturday the competition in the MX2 youth class delivered an international podium. The victory went to championship leader Alex van Weerdenburg. The De Jong Racing rider managed to win both heats and thus also took the corresponding victory of the day. Perhaps even more important! He did excellent business in the championship standings. In second place we saw an old acquaintance in the person of the Spaniard Roger Ponsa. With two second places, he also finished second in the daily rankings. The last place on the podium was decided based on the second heat.
It was the Belgian Troy Dendooven who took his place on the lowest step of the podium with a fourth and third place in the heats. He kept Randy Verheije behind him, who took third and fourth place in the heats. The second heat was also decisive in the battle for the last place in the top five. Roan van Vegchel decided this battle in his favor with a sixth and fifth place in the heats. He kept Dani Puts behind him.
In the championship standings, the battle for the title seems to have been decided. Van Weerdenburg took the full 120 points. Due to the absence of Dani Koot, his lead has grown to 210 points. Van Weerdenburg also has a depreciation of 1 times 50 points. Dani Koot has 990 points and has already lost his debit. This means that the fictitious lead that Van Weerdenburg has is 310 points. With seven more games, Van Weerdenburg now has more than five heats ahead of Koot.
First heat
Van Weerdenburg had the holeshot ahead of Verheije, Ponsa, Dendooven and Puts. The positions remain unchanged for a long time. Halfway through the heat, van Weerdenburg had an eight-second lead over Verheije and Ponsa. Dendooven followed behind. Puts was well behind in sixth place. It was Ponsa who passed Verheije and thus the positions at the front were taken. Van Weerdenburg did not give away the lead and won the heat ahead of Ponsa. Verheije followed for six seconds with Dendooven on his rear wheel. Puts managed to just keep an oncoming Van Vegchel behind him and finished in fifth place.
Second heat
It was again van Weerdenburg who was the fastest ahead of Verheije, Dendooven, Ponsa and van Vegchel. In the third round it was Dendooven who managed to take over second place. Van Vegchel slowly but surely dropped out of the battle for the front places and had to focus mainly on holding on to fifth place. The first four stayed close together at the front for a long time and that made the second heat a lot more attractive. It was Ponsa who always showed that he was the strongest on the track. He therefore passed over both Verheije and Dendooven and started the hunt for van Weerdenburg. In the last lap the attack came on the lead. However, Ponsa came to a standstill and the way was now clear for Van Weerdenburg. He also took the heat victory. Ponsa managed to get the engine running just in time to stay ahead of Dendooven. Verheije followed in a no man's land in fourth place and the same applied to Van Vegchel in fifth place.
