MX2 Lommel: Masterful Jago Geerts wins both series and catches up on Andrea Adamo by quite a few points
It must be that the new layout of the circuit in Lommel was particularly appreciated by Jago Geerts because he tolerated no opposition today and won both series. An impressive Lucas Coenen took second place.
The Swiss Mike Gwerder would not start this series again due to a crash in series one resulting in two broken ribs. Kay de Wolf also did not start again, a statement from the Negaan Husqvarna team will be released tomorrow, but this is probably due to an ankle problem.
In this second series, the start was accompanied by a short but heavy rain shower, with Norwegian Haakon Osterhagen surprisingly taking the lead ahead of Jago Geerts, Simon Laengenfelder and Andrea Adamo. Then there was a crash involving the trio of Sacha Coenen, Scott Smulders and Jan Pancar. Liam Everts left the starting gate in eighth place but rocketed to fourth place. Lucas Coenen, second in the first series, now rode 7thde round.
Surprising: Ferruccio Zanchi finished in a nice third place after a few laps. Ivano van Erp was once again well on his way in tenth place. In no time Lucas Coenen was in fourth place: his body language indicated that there was more to come. He soon passed over Liam Everts and immediately took some distance. In the meantime, the unfortunate Sacha Coenen had gone to the pits and gave up.
Andrea Adamo then crashed on lap six and disappeared into the belly of the peloton. Then Laengenfelder lost the front of his machine and crashed, causing Lucas Coenen to suddenly appear in the rear wheel of the German. At that moment, Jago Geerts had already built up a large lead of 13 seconds and was on his way to another victory.
The Balenaar also wins this series and of course becomes the final winner of this GP. It is the third consecutive victory for Geerts in Lommel. He also wins his 22th Grand Prix and catches up on Andrea Adamo by quite a few points, the difference is now only 13 points. Lucas Coenen came second today in Lommel and is on the podium again. Simon Laengenfelder finished third in the final standings. Liam Everts unfortunately fell just off the podium.
