What is the future of the ONK?
Earlier this month I, Steven van Kempen/KEMCO, was present in Hellendoorn as an announcer. A race of the KNMV Open Dutch Motocross Championship was held on the 'De Koetree' circuit. Only the 85cc Big Wheels were absent and when you see only 6 riders in action in six (65) classes (65KW-85GW-125KW-250cc-500cc-105cc) you still scratch your head. Of course there are riders absent due to injuries and due to competitions in Venlo and Germany, but still?!
Contact was made with the KNMV last week and the 'problem' is also known there. Behind the scenes we are working to improve the championship for both the drivers and the organizers. A good turnout is also important for the motorcycle club that organizes the competition. Hopefully the motorcycle association can improve a number of points to attract recreational athletes to the ONK competition in the future.
When you look at the turnout during the three competitions of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross, you know that the sport is certainly still alive in our country! In order to continue cycling, youth riders must be able to start during great competitions in order to enjoy the sport and grow to the level they want to reach.
