MX2: Lucas Coenen beats Liam Everts in the first series
Indonesia will be the scene of a Motocross Grand Prix for two weeks, the first part of which will be held in Sumbawa. It was Lucas Coenen who won the first series of MX2 in a blood-curdling duel with Liam Everts.
The holeshot in this first series went to our compatriot Jago Geerts who preceded his teammate Rick Elzinga. At the end of the first lap, Geerts made a mistake on a descent and moved back five places, allowing Liam Everts to take the lead. Lucas Coenen followed Everts closely in P2. Elzinga and Andrea Adamo were in third and fourth place after a few laps.
Kay de Wolf, who was at the starting gate with a bloody nose, had a bad start and had to fight back from midfield. Simon Laengenfelder gained steam a few laps later and was able to displace Adamo from third place. In lap eight, Lucas Coenen hit the rear wheel of leader Everts and it was looking forward to a duel between the two Belgians.
For laps, Coenen stayed in the wake of Everts, but a real attack came in the 14de round. Everts was able to beat it off, but the pinpricks kept coming. With three laps to go, it was far from certain who would take the series victory. Lucas Coenen was finally able to come alongside, but Everts wanted to regain this position quickly.
Lucas Coenen ultimately wins this blood-curdling series ahead of Liam Everts and Andrea Adamo, who ran over Laengenfelder in the last round. Jago Geerts was able to take fifth place. The second series of MX9 will follow later at 2 am.
