Mattéo Puffet has also won the third race in the IMBA MX Open championship. In Hummelo, Gelderland, the Belgian won all three heats and scored the full 180 points. Raf Meuwissen (Ned) achieved second place three times and was therefore second in the daily rankings. James Dodd (GBR) achieved a fourth and twice third place in the heats and also took the podium. Jaap Janssen achieved eighth, third and fourth places in the heats and ended the day in fourth place. He kept the British Henry Williams one point behind him.
In the championship standings, the differences at the front only increased. Puffet is in the lead with an 89-point lead over Dodd. Williams follows next with 15 points. Jonas Salaets (Bel) follows in fourth place. Ilja Rutten rose from seventh to fifth place. Kristof van Vaerenbergh (Bel) had a mediocre day and also saw the British Will Hughes pass him by in the standings. Behind them are the Swiss Kimi Isler and the British Jake Preston. Franck Rougraff (Bel) rose to tenth place.
First heat
It was Williams who had the best start ahead of Salaets, Meuwissen, Preston and Rutten. In the first round, Meuwissen passed Salaets and Preston to emerge as the leader. Behind him, Puffet had climbed to fourth place and Krijn van Vroenhoven (Ned) came in fifth, a few seconds behind. Van Vroenhoven quickly had to leave fifth place to Jaap Janssen, but Janssen quickly made a mistake. Van Vroenhoven then rode in fifth place for the entire heat. At the front, Puffet moved up to second place from halfway through the moto. After this, Meuwissen and Puffet drove away from the rest and five laps before the checkered flag fell, Puffet took over the lead and never relinquished it. Salaets defeated Williams in the final phase of the heat and finished in fourth place.
Second heat
The holeshot now belonged to Meuwissen ahead of Dodd, van Vaerenberg, Janssen and Puffet. Van Vaerenberg quickly fell back. This now placed Puffet in third place ahead of Janssen and Williams. In the second round Puffet moved up to second place and in the next round Meuwissen also had to suffer. Dodd then also saw Janssen pass him by. Williams was now in fifth place, but he had to leave it to Salaets after five laps. Four laps later, Salaets encountered problems and would not complete the moto. Williams again found himself in fifth place. There were no more position changes at the front. Puffet rode almost the entire heat about six seconds ahead of Meuwissen and was again the first to see the checkered flag. Meuwissen finished second. Janssen fell far behind in the last three laps, but managed to keep Dodd behind him. Well behind, Williams had to leave fifth place on the last lap to van Vroenhoven.
Third heat
It was Meuwissen again with the best start. However, he now immediately got Puffet behind him. Behind them came Salaets, Dodd and Williams. It didn't take long before Puffet took the lead again. After this, Puffet drove a little further away with each lap. In the ninth lap, Salaets' gap with Meuwissen was more than ten seconds and Salaets had to leave third place to Dodd. They arrived at the finish in this order, with Puffet achieving the full 180 points. Dodd was unable to close the gap with Meuwissen and fell further behind. He did pull away from Salaets to finish third. Well behind it was van Vroenhoven who passed Wiliams on the penultimate lap to see the checkered flag in fifth.
The next race will be held on July 23 in Lower Drayton.
