MX2: Simon Laengenfelder wins the Spanish Grand Prix
After winning the first series, the German Simon Laengenfelder now also won the second series. He was in the lead from start to finish, beating Jago Geerts who finished second today.
In this second series, Simon Laengenfelder led the gang with Jago Geerts, Andrea Adamo and Thibault Benistant in his wake. Sacha and Lucas Coenen also had a good start with a fifth and sixth place after a few corners. Lucas Coenen crashed a little later and then disappeared from the race with technical problems.
On lap four Kay de Wolf overtook Thibault Benistant to take P5 from the Frenchman. In a single move, Sacha Coenen lost two places to Roan van de Moosdijk and Liam Everts. At the front, Laengenfelder was able to pull away from Geerts for a few seconds. A little later, Everts was able to take over P6 from the Dutchman.
This time Jago Geerts took his chances and left Laengenfelder untouched. The circuit only has one good driving line and taking unnecessary risks is not an option if you are going for the title. In the last lap Geerts crashed briefly, but without losing a place. Simon Laengenfelder wins the Spanish GP ahead of Jago Geerts and Andrea Adamo. The best Belgian after Geerts was Liam Everts with sixth place in the final standings.
In two weeks the MXGP caravan will head to Villars sous Ecot for another confrontation at the highest level.
