Reisulis wins the first heat in Frauenfeld
In a rainy Fraunenfeld, Janis Reisulis won the first round of the European 125cc Championship. The Yamaha rider didn't get off to the best start but he slipped inside the first corner to quickly take the lead from Maximillian Werner. The Latvian wins ahead of Mathis Valin and the unknown Swede Laban Alm. Damian Knuiman is the best Dutchman, he finishes thirteenth and Gyan Doensen takes two points by crossing the finish line in 19th.
With the Fantic, the German Werner gets the best start while Reisulis seems to be included in midfield. However, the 15-year-old rider manages to slip through the first bend very nicely on the inside to connect with Werner. Valin follows in third place ahead of Doensen and the Dane Mads Fredsoe. A little further on things go wrong with a number of riders and Adrian Bolviken, Cole McCullough and Kasimir Hindersson are involved in this crash. At the front, Reisulis manages to take over the lead on the first lap and he never relinquishes this position. Valin, riding for the team of former EMX250 champion Valentin Teillet, managed to stay in the leader's wake for a long time, but he is very satisfied with second place. Werner seems to be going third, but when the sign goes out for the last two laps he runs into problems. Francisco Garcia and Fredsoe also crashed, meaning Alm took third place when the checkered flag fell. Vitezslav Marek, the EMX85 champion, crosses the finish line in fourth place, just ahead of Elias Escandell who started the race well outside the top ten.
Nearly 100 riders had registered for this first competition. Two KNMV riders managed to qualify while all Belgians had to watch how the points were distributed.
The second round will be held on Monday morning, the starting gate will be at 11.30 am.
