Jago Geerts dominates MX2 opener
After his holeshot, Jago Geerts turned it into a one-man show in Pietramurata. Still, the MX2 vice-world champion had to be careful because a surprising Liam Everts followed suit for a few laps! In the final phase Everts lost second place to teammate Adamo. Kay De Wolf, fifth, became the best Dutchman ahead of Roan van de Moosdijk and Lucas Coenen.
Geerts rushed to the holeshot ahead of Everts, Adamo and Weckman. Benistant quickly advanced to P3 but was unable to join the leaders. The Negaan Husqvarna trio De wold, van de Moosdijk and Coenen had started outside the top-8. In the third round Kay de Wolf showed his trump card and jumped spectacularly past Mikkel Haarup on the triple. A few laps later he overtook Emil Weckman for P5. De Wolf came within less than 0,7 seconds of Benistant, but ultimately had to settle for fifth place ahead of teammates from Moosdijk and Coenen.
The winner of the qualifying race Simon Längenfelder had completely missed his start and had to come back from very far away. From outside the top 20, the Red Bull GasGas driver achieved a creditable 9th place. Two-time EMX150 champion Emil Weckman finished his opening race in a nice eighth place. Although Liam Everts set one of the fastest laps in the race, he had to bow his head to an unleashed Adamo. He had already taken Benistant's measurements.
Rick Elzinga, 13th on the opening lap, finished an unremarkable race in 12th. The decisive second series starts at 16:10 PM!
