Jeffrey Herlings the big winner in Markelo
With two victories, Jeffrey Herlings is the big winner during the second race of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross. The KTM rider takes the day's victory in Markelo ahead of Romain Febvre (2-2) and Brian Bogers (5-3), who takes revenge after remaining scoreless in Harfsen. Herlings now has a 14 point lead over Febvre.
1e some
Febvre's Kawasaki takes off like an arrow from the bow when the starting gate goes down for the first heat over 25 minutes and a lap. The Frenchman is followed by Brian Bogers, but he gets a push from Herlings, causing the Honda rider to go wide in the first corner. There are problems in the first corner for Freek van der Vlist and Davy Pootjes who crash and have to give chase. Herlings follows Febvre in entering the woods in Markelo, followed by Bogers and Brent Vandoninck. Adam Sterry and Micha Boy de Waal. Flanders goes into the woods in eighth place, but he returns fifth in the 'Markeldrome', just behind former teammate Bogers! While Febvre and Herlings build up a small lead, Vandoninck, Bogers and Flanders battle for third place. Only in the second half of the race does Flanders manage to take over fourth place while Herlings increases the pressure on the leader. The first attack is an immediate hit and 'The Bullet' takes over the lead to win this first round. The duel for third place is won by the rider from Herental, followed by the Johannesburg-born Flanders. Bogers loses the connection because he is less successful with the laggards.
2e some
Febvre also takes the best start in the second round ahead of Bogers and Herlings. Flanders falls at risk together with Adam Sterry and Vandoninck also has a problem in the initial phase of this round. Herlings quickly passes Bogers for second place and Micha Boy de Waal follows in fourth place. The GasGas driver has to let the trio take the lead, but that is of course no damage. Just like in the first heat, Herlings lets the Frenchman set the pace. Then the 28-year-old rider makes a mistake, allowing Bogers to take over second place. The Eindhove native cannot hold on to second place for long because Herlings comes back and a little later he takes over the lead. With ten minutes left on the clock, 'The Bullet' sets the pace and that is too high for Febvre to be able to do anything in return. Bogers comes third and takes a hard-fought podium spot. Flanders comes back and he manages to cross the finish line in fourth place ahead of the Bulgarian Petar Petrov.
