Victory Bonacorsi, three Dutchmen in the top five!
Andrea Bonacorsi won the first round of the first race of the European 250cc Championship with a wide lead. The Yamaha rider managed to win ahead of Cas Valk, Quentin Prugnieres, Ivano van Erp and Kay Karssemakers. So we see three Dutchmen finish in the top five, Jens Walvoort (15th) and Kjed Stuurman (18th) also score in Riola Sardo.
The best start seems to be for Valk, but he goes wide in the first corner, allowing Luca Ruffini to take the lead. Valk follows ahead of Van Erp, who quickly attacks and takes over second place. Bonacorsi starts fifth behind Alexis Fueri who is quickly passed by the Hutten Metaal Yamaha rider. The big title favorite works his way forward and takes the lead from Valk after nine minutes. The Fantic rider is second ahead of Prugnieres, 40 seconds behind the winner. The Frenchman leaves Van Erp behind him, but the Ossenaar comes up in the last lap. Van Erp manages to cross the finish line in fourth place ahead of Karssemakers on the BT Racing Husqvarna.
The best Belgian is Nicolas Vennekens, the GasGas rider finished 28th while fellow countryman Wesly Dieudonne crashed and left the race early. Bradley Mesters finished in sixth place, but had to retire due to machine trouble. Jelle Bankers also does not reach the finish.
The second round of this opening race in the EMX11 will be held tomorrow at 30:250 am. Don't forget that summer time starts tonight, so the clocks go forward one hour!
