PR: Kevin Horgmo is a bit disappointed
Kevin Horgmo of F&H Racing managed to stay in the top six during the second round of the MX2 World Championship in Sardinia. Horgmo managed to finish eighth in the daily rankings on the tough sand circuit.
In the first heat, Horgmo chose a place in the middle behind the starting gate. With this he wanted to avoid crowding on the starting field. This worked out well because he was in the leading group when entering the first corner. However, another rider took him from the inside to the outside, so he could not turn and lost many places. It didn't take long for Horgmo to enter the top eight. The high pace and the small differences meant that he could only make a difference in the last four laps. He gained another place and crossed the finish line in eighth.
For the second heat, Horgmo opted for a position more to the inside. He started in ninth place and because the circuit consisted of only one ideal line in many places, he did not come back further than ninth place during the race. With these results he finished eighth in the overall standings and remains in the top six of the MX2 World Championship.
Kevin Horgmo:
"It wasn't my best day, I'm actually a little disappointed. My qualifying was OK but I couldn't get it done on race day. To be honest, I was hoping it would be harder. The track was really fast today. If it would have been harder, I could have made a difference with my fitness."
David Braceras gained a lot of experience in the MX2 class. The rookie in this class rode in twelfth place for the first 25 minutes of the first moto until he crashed during an aggressive overtaking maneuver by another rider. Several places were lost, so he eventually crossed the finish line in eighteenth place. In the second moto he made a mistake on the first lap and had to come back to the front from last place. During the race he came back to fourteenth place but the efforts of both heats started to take their toll. As a result, he had to give up two more places and finished sixteenth. Braceras finished in fifteenth place in the daily rankings and this is also his position in the world championship standings.
David Braceras:
“I had a good starting position in both heats. In the first moto I rode just outside the top ten for a long time until another rider blocked me and we crashed. I crashed at the start of the second moto. I came back to fourteenth place but then started having problems with my legs. We continue to work hard and now know what we need to work on.”
