Jarne Bervoets at a lonely height in Lierop
A particularly strong Jarne Bervoets won the 85cc class during the KNMV Dutch MX Opener on the Lierop circuit. The 13-year-old Belgian managed to take the lead in both heats on the first lap and never relinquished it. In fact, in both rounds he managed to put the competition behind early and control the matches. Dani Heitink (4-2) and Dean Gregoire (3-3) stood next to Bervoets on the podium at MAC Lierop.
Many pairs of eyes are focused on the starting gate of Lierop for the first heat of the day. The public has certainly not forgotten the “Circuit De Herselse Bossen”! Dex van den Broek seems to take the lead, but Dex Kooiker slips through and is the first to fly over the large table mountain. Things immediately get heated and in that fight Bervoets works his way into the lead. Viktor Leppala follows in second place, but Fin has to make way for Gregoire a little later. He is already looking at a considerable disadvantage to the leader. Ten minutes into the match, Gregoire makes a mistake after hitting the table, causing Heitink to take second place. Leppala manages to regain second place four laps before the finish. In the final laps Gregoire manages to outpace Heitink. The rider from Geldrop comes third ahead of Heitink and Van den Broek.
Moritz Ernecker takes the best start in the second round of the day, but the GasGas rider sees Bervoets, Van den Broek and Heitink pass in the woods. Even now, no one is a match for leader Bervoets, who quickly breaks free from the pursuers. Van den Broek is allowed to hold second place for a while, but Heitink takes over second place in the second laps. Leader Bervoets already has a lead of more than five seconds and the EHR KTM rider wins with a 35 second lead. Heitink, also 13, crosses the finish line second ahead of Gregoire. The Alpinestars-clad crosser has had a bad start, fighting like a lioness for her cubs. The Voss KTM Racing rider manages to take third place from Van den Broek in the last lap. The 12-year-old rider from Deurne crosses the finish line in fourth place ahead of the Finn Leppala.
The KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross start in two weeks. The first race in the series of three will be held on March 19 at the Harfsen circuit. The competitions in Markelo and Oldebroek will follow later in the season.
