Fernandez takes his first GP victory
With a fifth and first place, Ruben Fernandez managed to book his first Grand Prix victory. The Spaniard thus provides a satisfied face to Honda, who will have to miss their defending champion for the time being. Jeffrey Herlings will also return to the Netherlands very satisfied. The 28-year-old rider comes second in the daily rankings ahead of Jorge Prado. The GasGas rider is the first leader in the championship, he travels to the next GP with the 'Redplate'.

Last year, Prado won the most FOX Holeshot Awards. He will continue there this season as the Spaniard takes the best start in the first moto ahead of Febvre and Ruben Fernandez. The Honda rider manages to take the lead in the second corner by using a very nice short driving line. This is not Jeremy Seewer's weekend as he crashes in the first round with Calvin Vlaanderen and Brian Bogers. Febvre loses third place to Pauls Jonass in the first lap while Prado follows his compatriot in the lead like a shadow. After 10 minutes the GasGas driver takes the lead and takes the win. Ten minutes later Fernandez crashes and the 24-year-old rider loses second place. Febvre, Renaux and Herlings pass by. Fernandez completes the top five while Coldenhoff crosses the finish line in seventh. After the problems in the initial phase, Flanders still takes eleventh place. Bogers still finishes sixteenth ahead of Seewer. Van Berkel also scores, the Veghel native comes 20th under the checkered flag.

Coldenhoff takes off like an arrow from the bow after falling from the starting gate. The Yamaha rider takes the FOX Holeshot Award but sees Jonass and Fernandez slip through. The Spaniard takes the lead and will not relinquish it. Herlings comes out of the first right-hand bend in fifth place behind Prado, after which he manages to work his way up to second place. It seems that he is trying to connect with the leader, but that doesn't work. Halfway through the race, Seewer, who came tenth from the first round, managed to take over third place from Jonass. He then tries to connect with peer Herlings, but he has a strong final phase. The KTM rider is therefore second behind Fernandez and ahead of Seewer. Jonass is good for fourth place, followed by Febvre who makes a successful attack on Prado just before the end of the last two laps. The Frenchman thus completes the top five. Bogers sends his Honda to seventh place and Flanders completes the top ten. Coldenhoff crashes hard but fortunately is able to continue to finish fourteenth. Van Berkel does not finish, just like Van Doninck.
This championship will continue in two weeks on the Italian island of Sardinia. The points are then distributed on the sand circuit of Riola Sardo.
