Adrien Van Beveren wins Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge
Adrien Van Beveren was declared the winner of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge yesterday. This is the Frenchman's second victory since driving for Honda, as Adrien also won the Rally de Andalucía last year.
The fifth and final stage of the rally connected Qasr Al Sarab to Abu Dhabi with a 206 km special stage and a 164 km link. Van Beveren finished fifth. It is the first time he has won this race, after his 2nd place in 2021. Just like VBA, Luciano Benavides retained his 2nd place at the finish today. Toby Price took 3rd place on the line after a steady attack for over 200km.
In the overall championship standings, after round two, it is Toby Price who takes the lead with 46 points. Van Beveren is 2nd with 42 points, his favorite number to wear in the races! Kevin Benavides, thanks to the 38 points from his Dakar victory, remains on the podium. Reigning world champion Sam Sunderland and Dakar winner Kevin Benavides were not there due to injuries.
His brother Luciano Benavides, winner of two stages this week, is 4th with 35 points. In the constructors' standings, Honda wins the round thanks to the victory of VBA and the 4th place of “Nacho” Cornejo. But KTM maintains the lead in the overall standings with 84 points against Honda's 75 points. Husqvarna is 3rd with 69 points.
The championship is now on a break until the end of April. The third race of this year's calendar is a first: the Mexico Sonora rally (April 22-28). Let's not forget that Adrien Van Beveren's main goal remains unchanged: the Dakar Rally.
