Van de Moosdijk controlled to victory in Groesbeek
Last Sunday the winter cross finally took place again in Groesbeek. Another beautiful moon can be added to the beautiful list of winners: Roan van de Moosdijk. He managed to win both heats. Micha-Boy de Waal had to settle for second place after his victory in Deurne. Scott Smulders was the third to receive his cup and check. Greg van der Weide took fourth place ahead of home driver John Cuppen.
First heat:
It was Este Joosep Parn who had the holeshot. However, a few hundred meters later it was Van de Moosdijk who had the lead with De Waal in his wheel. Jeremy Knuiman and Jacky Tausch followed behind Parn. Van de Moosdijk and de Waal quickly took a big lead. Behind it, Parn fell further and further and now followed Knuiman, Tausch and Erik de Bruyn. Jeremy Knuiman then dropped out of the top five due to a fall. This dislocated his shoulder and his day ended. An oncoming Smulders now reported in fifth place and he would soon pass de Bruyn and Tausch. He was also no longer able to close the gap with Van de Moosdijk and de Waal and only saw it widen. Van de Moosdijk rode away from de Waal in a controlled manner and won the round ahead of de Waal. Smulders rode away from Tausch and de Bruyn to finish third. Tausch finished fourth, followed by de Bruyn by a few seconds. Right behind them came Stan van Zoggel and Greg van der Weide.
Second heat:
Now it was the equal of de Moosdijk and de Waal who managed to take the first two positions ahead of de Bruyn Tausch and van der Weide. Once again, van de Moosdijk and de Waal were too strong for the rest of the field and quickly had a large lead over Tausch. De Bruyn had fallen back and it was Smulders who followed Tausch at the rear wheel. John Cuppen had passed van der Weide and followed close behind. Van der Weide had to let the man in front of him go slowly but surely. After fifteen minutes of driving, things went wrong for Tausch. He suffered a serious crash, probably due to a flat rear tire. As a result, the heat was ultimately flagged with the red flag. Van de Moosdijk never lost control and won the heat ahead of De Waal. Smulders followed well behind in third place, about six seconds behind, followed by Cuppen. Van der Weide took fifth place.
