There will be a GP World Supercross Championship (WSX) in France
France will host a Grand Prix of the World Supercross Championship (WSX) for the first time this year. The second round of the 2023 championship will turn Lyon's Groupama stadium into a dirt bike battlefield on Saturday, July 22. And fans can register for pre-sale now to get early access to tickets.
Two of the ten teams participating in the 2023 season are French (BUD Racing and Team GSM), and WSX has signed a large number of French drivers, including Cédric Soubeyras, Thomas Ramette and Jordi Tixier.
BUD Racing's Cédric Soubeyras – who will return to the 2023 class in 450 – is thrilled to be competing in a world championship in his home country. “I'm so happy to be racing in France,” said Soubeyras. “It's good that WSX is now coming to France. We are a strong country in supercross and motocross. The races will be tougher than the pilot season because the riders know WSX is the real deal. We race in big stadiums, on big circuits, with good teams and with good prize money, and I'm sure many champions will want to participate.”
"I can't wait to get back on my BUD Racing machine and get ready for the races. All my friends are talking about right now is this race.” BUD Racing team principal, Stephane Dassé, said: “France is an important country for motocross and supercross; the fans are really passionate. It is very good that WSX is coming to France, because the best European supercrossers mainly come from France. Driving in the Lyon Groupama Stadium is really huge; These are the stadiums you see on TV for football, and for WSX to come here is incredible and exciting.”
After two successful events in 2022, with packed houses in Cardiff and Melbourne, WSX is now expanding its mission to elevate supercross to a truly global sport with six Grand Prix events on four continents in 2023. Each round will also be broadcast to millions viewers worldwide on international television channels and streamed via the WSX.TV platform.
The championship offers the largest prize pool in supercross history, with US$250.000 up for grabs, which has attracted 10 teams and 40 of the world's best riders to battle for world championship glory in two categories: the WSX 450cc class and the SX2 250cc class.
