Alestrem: Sherco wins with Wade Young
Last weekend the new European Hard Enduro Challenge started in Alestrem, consisting of 5 events: 24MX Alestrem (France), Extreme Enduro Lika (Croatia), Red Bull Abestone (Italy), Grefrees Granit Scramble (Germany) and Hixpania (Spain) .
The race lasts two days. Through an extreme special stage, the 100 drivers are selected to participate in the prologue, which determines the starting order of the selective 3-lap course in which the difficulties increase. This 8th edition was won for the first time by the South African driver Wade Young.
Jordan Curvalle, Sherco Team Manager: “It's never easy to drive at home. We had many participants with the presence of the last HardEnduro 2022 World Champion. As expected, the race was decided on the third lap. Wade and Lettenbichler were evenly matched from then on, with Wade taking the lead on the second part of the final lap. Wade Young had never won in Ales before, this year he was really determined to win the event after a 2022 season marred by injuries. A great victory against great opposition after 7 hours and 15 minutes on the bike!"
Wade Young: “A good weekend for me. It was good to fight with the leaders on both days. The last day went smoothly. I rode most of the race with Manuel. By the end of the third lap I was able to take a lead and take my first victory in this European race. A big thank you to my team for all the help and support, without them I couldn't have won!"
As for Mario Roman, he also delivered a great performance. He started from the second row after a small problem during the prologue, but managed to get back on the podium after a solid final lap. He was obviously disappointed, as he had won the 2022 edition, but for the Sherco team it is a great reward to have both riders on the podium! KTM rider Manuel Lettenbichler took the second step of the podium between the two Sherco riders.
Mario Roman: “It was a positive weekend for Sherco, and for Wade and me, as we both stood on the podium and put number one back in this race. I'm super happy for Wade who fought very hard to finally win. Of course I would have liked to participate with them, but unfortunately that was not possible."
