Jett Lawrence wins the opening match again
Earlier in the evening, RJ Hampshire won the heat race, but when it came to points, Jett Lawrence was there. Just like last year, the Australian won in the first race of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The only difference is that it is now the West Coast instead of the East Coast last season. In Anaheim, Hampshire finished second for Cameron McAdoo.
Before the sprint to the first corner was completed, things went wrong for Austin Forkner. The Kawasaki rider crashes hard and his final appearance comes to an early end. Lawrence gets the best start, winning the Holeshot Award for Honda colleague Mitchell Oldenburg and McAdoo. The Pro Circuit rider quickly takes over second place and Max Vohland, Phillip Nicoletti and Hampshire also pass Oldenburg. About twelve minutes into the race, 25-year-old McAdoo is in second place, almost four seconds behind the leader. In the final phase, however, Hampshire is the strongest and, after a mistake, he beats McAdoo in the battle for second place. Just before that, Oldenburg had worked its way back to fourth place at the expense of the strong Vohland.
The championship continues next week in Oakland!
