Dakar: Ross Branch wins eighth stage
Ross Branch rides for the Indian motorcycle brand Hero and was the fastest today in the stage from Al Duwadimi to Riyadh. He defeated Mason Klein by a small margin.
Skyler Howes had started as leader in this stage but had to give up a lot of time at the finish. He finished 19th, 15 minutes behind the winner. Branch and Klein were evenly matched today, but in an ultimate final sprint, Branch was able to take the victory. Mason Klein came second, but was given a 2-minute penalty due to a speeding violation, which put him in third place.
Unfortunately, Ross Branch from Botswana is no longer eligible for the overall victory in this Dakar Rally because he previously fell far back in the rankings due to fuel problems. The two Hondas of Quintanilla and Van Beveren finished fourth and fifth. It was another solid day for Jérôme Martiny. He finished 31st, while our northern neighbors also did well. Wesley Aaldering finished 39th and Mirjam pol scored an excellent 43rd place.
In the standings, Skyler Howes retains the lead with a small lead of 1:13 minutes over Mason Klein. Kevin Benavides is in third place. Jérôme Martiny is ranked 36th. Tomorrow is a rest day in the Dakar rally. Stage no. 9 is on the menu on Tuesday with a ride between Riyadh and Haradh with the emphasis on navigation.
