Dakar: Adrien Van Beveren wins fifth stage, Skyler Howes is new leader
The HRC Honda pilot Adrien Van Beveren was partying today in the fifth stage of the Dakar 2023. He beat his teammate Jose Ignacio Cornejo. Husqvarna factory rider Skyler Howes takes over the lead from Daniël Sanders.
The loop to and from Ha'il over 373 km was this time a ride almost exclusively on loose sand. Barreda was allowed to open the debates but quickly lost places to Toby Price, Skyler Howes and Pablo Quintanilla. But they lost after 200 km and so Adrien Van Beveren came into the sights of the front runners. José Ignacio Cornejo also made no mistakes and was able to accelerate in the wake of the Frenchman.
He even managed to close in on the leading position and was only 15 seconds short of the finish. Van Beveren therefore wins the internship ahead of Cornejo and Mason Klein. Brave Matthias Walkner finished fourth today ahead of Toby Price and Skyler Howes. The latter takes over the lead in the rankings from Daniël Sanders. Kevin Benavides (KTM) is second, 44 seconds behind leader Howes.
Wesley Aaaldering was the best of the lowlanders today with a 42nd place. Jérôme Martiny finished 65th, Mirjam Pol 88th. Camille Chapeliere suffered serious injuries after a crash yesterday. Due to a severely swollen arm, the doctor banned him from starting and had to leave the race.
